Privacy

The short version: there are no accounts, and we never learn who you are.

What we store

When you finish a run we save your score: which challenge you played, how many rounds you survived, how long each answer took, and the emoji summary. That is what powers lines like “only 6% survived today”.

Those results are tied to a random identifier generated by your browser, kept in a cookie and in local storage. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, because there are none. Its only job is to stop one person's single daily result from being counted twenty times.

What stays on your device

Your streak, whether you have played today, and any run in progress live in your browser's local storage. Clearing your browser data resets them, and we cannot recover them for you.

Analytics

We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count things like how many people start a run and which round they usually lose on. It is configured without tracking cookies and without automatic capture, so it records the events the game sends and nothing else. It helps us tell whether a picture is genuinely tricky or just unfair.

What we never do

  • No accounts, passwords, or email addresses.
  • No advertising, and no selling or sharing of data with advertisers.
  • No cross-site tracking, and no third-party ad or social pixels.
  • No location data, and no contacts.

Shared links

A share link carries only your challenge number, how far you got, and the emoji trail. It contains no answers and nothing about you. Anyone opening it sees a score to beat, not your identity.

Playing inside Discord

Food or Friend? can also run as a Discord Activity. When you launch it there, Discord tells us your Discord user ID, your username and display name, and your avatar, and which server and channel you launched from. We use these to record your daily result under a scrambled version of your Discord ID, to show your name and avatar on that channel's board for the day, and to post finishes and a next-day summary into the channel the game is played from (or the channel a member with the Manage Channels permission chose with /foodorfriend on). Launching from a server channel is how you agree to appear on that channel's board; launching from a DM or the App Launcher shows only your own result.

Board rows (name, avatar, round reached) are kept for 90 days. Your scores themselves are kept like web scores, without your name, until you delete them. We never read your messages, only post in channels the game was launched from or a channel manager chose (/foodorfriend off stops it), and never share Discord data with anyone. Your Discord scores and your web scores are separate unless you link them yourself in a future update.

Deleting from inside the Activity removes your results, your board rows and the record that links your Discord ID to them. One thing remains for 90 days: a marker, built with a separate one-way hash that cannot be traced back to you or joined to anything else, that stops a deleted daily from being played again onto a channel board.

Removing your data

Because results are anonymous, the only thing that can find yours is the identifier your own browser holds. So deletion is self-service: the button below sends that identifier to the server, every result recorded under it is deleted, and the identifier itself is wiped from this browser. Nothing is left to trace back to you.

Played on more than one device or browser? Each one holds its own identifier, so press the button on each. Clearing site data for foodorfriend.com in your browser settings removes the identifier too, though it leaves already-recorded scores in place.
